Questions & Answers

  1. Do modules need to be taken in sequence?

Yes & no. You must attend Module 4 before you may attend Module 5. We recommend that all modules be taken in sequence. For that reason, starting the program at other than Module 1 is at the discretion of the Director, Diploma in Adult Education. Contact us.

  2. How much time, in addition to class time, is involved?

Modules 1-4 each require a post-module assignment to reinforce what is learned in class. In Module 5, the assignment is accomplished during class (with some evening work during the module). Each assignment and associated readings may require up to 20 hours to complete. Module 6 (the practicum) involves the design, development, and facilitation of an actual training program and time requirements vary. Learners usually complete the practicum in 6 months or more of part-time work/study.

  3. If I am not currently in a training position, what effect will this have on my ability to complete the program?

While it is assumed that you have a basic understanding of adult education and human resources development, it is not essential that you are employed currently in a training capacity. Our staff will assist you in meeting Diploma requirements.

  4. I have taken adult education courses elsewhere. May I transfer these credits to the Diploma program?

No. You must complete the StFX modules to qualify for StFX credits.

  5. May I transfer my Diploma credits to another university?

The receiving institution not StFX – makes such decisions.  Some institutions have awarded credit on a case-by-case basis.

  6. Are course tuitions tax deductible?

Yes. If you are not sponsored by your employer, you will receive an official tax receipt (T2202A) in February for all tuition paid in the previous calendar year.

  7. Is the StFX program recognized?

The program has been offered since 1981. To date, we have provided professional development to thousands of adult learners. In 1996, the program garnered the International/National Program of Excellence Award from CAUCE (Canadian Association of University Continuing Education).

  8. What forms of advice and assistance are available to me?
