This exhibition is an examination of how female identifying artists understand and engage with gender, resistance, and joy. It is a multidisciplinary show which aims to identify common barriers and narratives, while acknowledging the vast differences inherent to our gender experience. We are interested in the plurality of voices and in the many different stories that comprise our understanding (or misunderstanding) of the feminine.
We welcome all levels of artists to submit pieces for consideration. Please send the selection committee a description of your work, and it's relevance to your lived experiences with gender from a female perspective. Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call us at 1(902)863-6221. You can also drop off pictures or descriptions to the Antigonish Women’s Resource Centre & Sexual Assault Services Association at 219 Main St.
Submitted wall works must be ready to be hung. Please consult with the organizers regarding the display of sculpture
The exhibition will be held from March 5th to the 19th at the St. Francis Xavier Art Gallery in Antigonish, Nova Scotia on the unceded territory of Mi'kma'ki. The official opening will be on International Women's Day on March 8th, with performances from local spoken word artists, musicians, and dancers. This show and opening are a part of the International Women’s Week celebrations and events coordinated by the AWRC&SASA.
We are very much looking forward to this event, and happy to answer any questions you may have.
