The X-Chem Outreach Program is proud to offer the return of our ever popular Chemistry and Science Camps! The summer X-SCITEMENT series will consist of both chemistry and science camps as well as a computer camp and an All Girls science camp. All camps are hosted by X-Chem and take place in a lab at St. Francis Xavier University.

Elements, Atoms and Molecules will be exposed to exciting chemistry demos as well as conduct hands on experiments that will capture your imagination! Trail Blazer, Adventure and Discovery groups will be exploring the worlds of chemistry, biology, physics, geology, engineering and much more! This year all of the activities will be different from those done last year!

Some of the exciting things going on this year during the grade 5-8 Chemistry Camp will, for the first time, be centred around metals, mining and Earth Sciences in collaboration with the Earth Sciences Department. The grade 5-8 Science Camp will look at various aspects of health sciences and related careers. Activities will revolve around our bodies and how they work. We will look at bones and organs, examine our blood pressure, lung function and study food composition. We will construct a stethescope and do at least one dissection (non-human). 

Each camp is geared towards the different age groups with challenges varying from beginner to advanced. Campers should be registered in the camps for the grade which they are going into, ie. a child finishing Grade 2 should be enrolled in a Grade 3-4 camp. Exceptions can be made, within reason.

Summer Schedule 2013

Camp Location: St FX Physical Science Centre, Antigonish

* Please note the Chemistry 1-2 and Science 1-2 camps start on a Tuesday, due to the Monday holidays.

This year X-Chem also offers various satellite science camps!

*Registration will be completed through New Glasgow Recreation. Total price including Tshirt is $90.

X-Chem will also be hosting camps for Aboriginal students!

Camp hours are from 9am to 3pm, Monday through Friday unless otherwise specified.

Pricing

Multi-Camp discount: Fee will be reduced by 10$ for each additional camp a camper attends.
ie. One Camp: $75.00, Two Camps: $140.00 (when paid for together)

Family Discount: Fee will be reduced by $10 for each additional sibling (ie. Child One: $75, Child Two: $65, Child Three: $55). Family Discount not available for New Glasgow campers.

We believe every child should have the opportunity to attend summer camp. Bursaries are available to help with fees if necessary.

Camp T’s will be available and must be prepaid at a cost of $15 each.

The following deadlines are for ordering Tshirts. Camp T-shirt’s will not be available to those participants accepted after this deadline.

Camp Registration is advised to be as early as possible. Registration will cease once camps are full.
