Co-op at StFX is designed to enhance the academic experience and provide opportu ities for personal and professional growth. Students can choose three work placements of four months each, or a 12-16 month work term following third year. Students earn necessary professional experience which increases their employability after graduation. Students are considered full-time students at St. Francis Xavier University while students are on work term placements.
What programs offer co-op?
Students in business administration, information systems, computer science, biology and human nutrition have a co-op option.
Why do students choose the co-op option?
Students learn about themselves through progessional development sessions, co-op seminars, learning work shops, and have access to highly regarded guest speakers. They also become informed of career options available in their field of study, learn to effectively job search, as well as market their education, skills and experience. Students build professional networks and portfolios that will assist them with finding employment after graduation. They also benefit by earning money while attending university.
Students in the program know that work experience has to parallel the academic knowledge for success after graudation. They are ready to begin the journey from student to professional. Students in the program enjoy the one-on-one personalized coaching from co-op staff and the access to information. Library resources and materials needed for effective job searching and self marketing.

The Co-op Program costs $3300 in addition to the tuition fees required by the university.

Withdrawl Refunding
There will be no refund of fees collected for professional development seminars or work terms completed prior to the date of withdrawal. For students who withdraw during a PDS session or while completing a work tem, normal refunding will apply.
Work Site Evalutaiton
Work site monitoring is a mandatory component of co-operative education program. The work sire evaluation helps the Co-op staff to become better acquainted with the students' working environment and specific work duties.
Co-op staffs are unable to have direct conversation with you regarding your son or daughter due to freedom of information legislation. Please asking questions of your son or daughter pertaining to their progress tin the co-op program stages and guiding them to be proactive in their job searches.
