Work Term Information

While you are on work term, you are expected to maintain active communication with the co-op office. There are several requirements you will need to fulfill during your time with your employer.

  1. Communicate with the Co-op Office. The staff will provide pre-employment information.
  2. Register for your work terms. Once a student has secured a work placement, you must register for the appropriate work term through mesAMIS. Students must register before the end of September (for Sept-Dec work term), January (for January to April work term) and May for (May to August work term).
  3. Complete and return your Contact Information (100 KB PDF) sheet to the co-op office via email or fax.
  4. Submit your learning objectives for the work term. A sample of what is expected is provided in this outline (120 KB PDF). Regardless if you are completing a 4 or 12-month work term, we require students to submit new learning objectives for every 4 months of work.
  5. During the work term, the Co-op office will conduct a Work-site Evaluation (in-person or via teleconference or skype). The Co-op staff member will ask the student and employer a series of questions (separately). After speaking with the student and employer, the co-op staff member will debrief the student and employer together. This evaluation will become part of the student's co-op file.
  6. At the end of the 4 month work term, your supervisor will have to submit a Student Performance Evaluation Form (147 KB PDF).

Email completed essays to jsmacdon@stfx.ca before the deadline. Each essay is worth 5% for a total of 15% of your COOP 405 grade. If you do not submit the documentation to the office before the deadline, you will receive a grade of zero for that component of 405.

This essay should have no grammar or spelling mistakes. Students should avoid general statements for example, “I learned a lot at my companyl.” (What does “a lot” mean?)
