Elementary education students must prepare to teach a wide range of subject fields due to the nature of the public elementary schools of Nova Scotia.
Elementary Education Stream (P-8) Requirements
Social Studies 9 university credit hours from any or a combination of: Geography, Poli. Sci., Classics, Anthropology, Mi'kmaq Studies, Acadian Studies, History, Law, African Canadian Studies, Sociology, Philosophy, Economics.
Science 6 university credit hours of any or a combination of: Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Geology/Earth Science, Oceanography, Physics, Interdisciplinary Studies in Science.
Math 6 university credit hours of mathematics. Three of the six must include investigation of fundamental concepts and ideas.
English/French 6 university credit hours in the subject English if your first degree was delivered in English, 6 university credit hours in the subject French if your first degree was delivered in French.
Developmental Psychology You must have a course in Developmental Psychology (3 or 6 credit).
