Medical Care

It is important to seek medical attention if you have been sexually assaulted for several reasons
  • There could be physical injuries you may or may not be able to see
  • To test and treat for possible sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy
  • Emergency contraception (Plan B) and Anti Viral medication that helps prevent virus transmission.
  • To collect forensic evidence which can be used in court (if you decide to report the assault)
It is important to avoid eating, drinking, showering/bathing, changing your clothing or combing your hair before receiving medical care. It is wise to avoid cleaning your room, washing your sheets, or emptying garbage cans. Doing so may destroy forensic evidence and is recommended that you do not touch or change anything at the scene of the assault.
