Document Delivery for Distance Students

What is Document Delivery and Document Delivery Distance Services?

Document Delivery
Document Delivery is responsible for obtaining materials which are unavailable at StFX either in print or online. StFX students, staff and faculty can borrow physical material and obtain copies of articles or chapters from works that are not held by the StFX Library. We will do our best to fill all requests.

Document Delivery Distance Services
Document Delivery is also responsible for delivering print materials from the StFX collection to distance students, staff and faculty. Your local library (whether a university, college, hospital or public library) should be your first resource for locating research material.

Most local libraries will lend books and allow you to photocopy materials. Some libraries will facilitate borrowing materials from other libraries through Document Delivery. A charge may apply to some or all of these services.

Who can use Document Delivery Distance Services?
Distance Services are available to anyone registered in or teaching a distance class. StFX will provide registered students with a library card and, on request, a letter of introduction to local libraries. Your StFX library card can be used to borrow books from StFX or any library in the Novanet system. If you are outside Nova Scotia, your local library should be your first resource. You may request a CAUL/ASIN library card to borrow from these institutions.

CAUL/ASIN Card
You need a CAUL/ASIN card if you want to borrow books or other printed resources from university libraries outside of Nova Scotia. If you would like to have a CAUL/ASIN card contact Kris MacSween kmacswee@stfx.ca, Access Services Manager.

What if I live outside of Nova Scotia?
Members of the StFX Community registered in or teaching a distance class, who are unable to physically access the StFX campus may contact the Document Delivery department about solutions for accessing the Library’s print materials.
