Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and GCE A Level Courses

Advanced Placement Program
Students who have completed courses in the AP program may be eligible for up to 30 transfer credits for selected AP courses with national exam results of 3, 4, or 5.

If you have been awarded AP transfer credits, or expect to receive transfer credits for AP courses, you should contact Academic Advising (see below) to determine how your transfer credits can be used in your degree program, and how they may alter the normal first-year course selection for your degree.

International Baccalaureate Program
A student admitted to StFX with a score of 30 or higher on the IB Diploma, and a minimum score of 5 on all higher level and standard level courses, will be granted up to 30 transfer credits.  A student who has one or more individual course scores below 5 will have courses individually assessed for possible transfer.  A student who has completed IB courses but who does not possess the diploma, or who scored below 30 on the IB Diploma, may be eligible for transfer credit for higher level courses with grades of 5, 6, or 7.

If you have been awarded IB transfer credits, or expect to receive transfer credits for IB courses, you should contact Academic Advising (see below) to determine how your transfer credits can be used in your degree program, and how they may alter the normal first-year course selection for your degree.

General Certificate of Education (GCE) A Level Courses
A student who achieved final grades of A, B, or C in approved Advanced "A" Level courses may be eligible to receive transfer credit.

If you have been awarded A Level transfer credits, or expect to receive transfer credits for A Level courses, you should contact Academic Advising (see below) to determine how your transfer credits can be used in your degree program, and how they may alter the normal first-year course selection for your degree.

Academic Advising

The best option for discussing the way in which your AP, IB, or A Level transfer credits will inpact your degree program, and your course selection for the coming year, is to make an appointment with an academic advisor.  In-person or phone appointments can be booked online.  Choose the "Appointments" link on the Academic Advising website.

Academic Advising can also be reached by email at advising@stfx.ca.
