Returning students room allocations

Room Allocations

During the past few weeks, the University Administration has been in consultation with the StFX Students’ Union, its Executive Committee, House Councils, along with the residence staff, to balance room allocation proportionately in all residences for new and returning students. The outcome of the discussions provided guiding principles around room allocations and a strategy to address the expected increase in frosh demand, while remaining committed to return-to-house and return-to-campus options for second and upper-year students.

Spaces are secured by year of study

Returning students applying to residence for 2012-2013 can expect the following allocation of residence spaces compared to this year:

  • To accommodate the planned increase of 130 new direct from high school students in September 2012, 80 additional beds will be set aside in traditional housing along with 50 additional beds in Governors Hall.
  • 100 additional spaces will be held in apartment-style and Governors Hall, and traditional spaces decrease by 80 for students entering their second year.
  • Students entering third or fourth year (and beyond) can expect a combined decrease in Governors Hall, Somers and Power Halls, and off-campus, university-owned residences by 150 spaces. This allocation of spaces supplies for the demand from second-year students looking to return to campus.
  • StFX Residence Services will remain committed to the return-to-house option through the regular draw selection process.
  • Spaces will be reserved in each respective traditional house for House Council Presidents and Vice-Presidents.
  • House Director, Residence Assistant, and Proctor spaces will be set aside in all residences.
  • Spaces will be held for students with medical, mobility, and other special needs.
