Paul Carey Named Director, Safety and Security at StFX

Keith Publicover, Vice President Recruitment and Student Experience at St. Francis Xavier University is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul D. Carey, CD as Director, Safety and Security.
 
Mr. Carey will champion the safety and security portfolio for StFX. In response to a changing physical campus and our continued commitment to creating a more safe and secure community, Paul will lead the transformation of the department, oversee annual risk management assessments, and implement the integrated operational strategies for the benefit of all university students, staff, and faculty, and campus visitors. He will provide leadership to the full-time professional and part-time student security teams, communications service operators, and student emergency first responders; while coordinating supports with local community emergency response agencies. Paul will bring together stakeholders across the institution to integrate response plans, execute training programs, and communicate effective security procedures.
 
Mr. Carey comes to StFX with more than 20 years of professional experience in security and emergency preparedness and has held management posts for Department of National Defense Commissionaires, Halifax International Airport Authority, and Halifax Dartmouth Bridge Commission. He is a retired decorated Captain, Security and Military Police Officer, and international speaker on Emergency Preparedness, and a volunteer suicide intervention trainer. He will bring a depth of knowledge, skill, and experience to lead the improved safety and security practices across the StFX campus.
 
Mr. Carey will take up the position on May 2, 2011.
