The Service Learning Program will hire 3 Service Learning Student Leaders for the 2012-2013 academic year. The students who fill these positions will assist in the day-to-day operation of the Service Learning Program while developing their own leadership skills.
Who should apply:
We are seeking a broad mix of students representing a range of years of study and diverse academic backgrounds (i.e. students with majors in sciences, humanities, social sciences business, etc.). Students currently enrolled in first and second year are also encouraged to apply. Preference given to those with Course-based and Immersion experience.
Brief job description:
Service Learning Student Leaders will refine their leadership, facilitation, goal-setting, and administrative skills.
Some of the Student Leaders’ tasks will include:
1.Working with Course Based and Immersion Programs.
2.Promoting the program.
3.Serving as a liaison between service learning staff, students, and community partners.
4.Supporting students engaged in service learning.
5.Performing administrative duties necessary for the operation of the program.
6.Assisting with the recruitment and training of new leaders for the following academic year.

Qualifications:
The positions are appropriate for students who have a proven commitment to working within the community. The Leaders must be strong communicators, manage time effectively, and work well both independently and as team members. Experience in Course-Based or Immersion Service Learning or the Service Learning Student Society is a definite asset.
Hours and Training:
Applicants must be available during the twelve weeks of class time each term.
Student Leaders work in a range of 8-12 hours per week. Students must be flexible in terms of the times they can work. There will be work required in evenings and during the weekend, as well as during regular business hours (as the students' class schedules permit).
Leaders will have approximately 30 hours of mandatory, paid training in March and August/September. Training will start in March of 2012. the August/September training may take place in the week before the Labour Day weekend and also in the week classes begin. Most of this training takes place during week days. Leaders will be required to attend all training sessions. Training may also take place some weekends and/or evenings in September.
Successful applicants must undergo Police Criminal Record Checks and Child Abuse screening.
Wages: $11.50/hour Note: These positions are subject to budgetary approval.
