Direct service to the public:
- Economics, Sociology, Business and Human Nutrition students distribute food at the local food bank, using disciplinary lenses.
- Abnormal Psychology, Introduction to World Religion, Deviance and Social Control, or Anthropology of Health and Medicine students provide friendship and support to youth and adults with developmental delays or mental illness.
- Physics and Chemistry students design and deliver educational programs in the schools to demonstrate the everyday use of physics/chemistry.
- Human Kinetics in Adapted Physical Education lead exercise programs for seniors and for children and adults with disabilities.
- Women’s Studies staff a community booth with educational material about family violence.
- Developmental Psychology, French and Human Kinetics students tutor public school students.
- Anthropology of Health and Medicine and Religious Studies students assist with recreational programs at seniors’ homes.
- Outdoor Experiential Education students design and supervise beach clean-ups with elementary age children and offer after-school activity programs.
- Gaelic students offer after-school programs in Gaelic language and culture.
- Sociology students in Disability and Culture teach Girl Guides how to conduct an accessibility survey of the campus.
- Art students partner with L’Arche participants to create tapestries for public display.

- Sociology students in Deviance and Social Control do diversity analysis of promotional materials.
- Business students in Leadership organize and deliver fundraising events for non-profit agencies.
- Nursing and Women’s Studies students design workshops regarding youth sexuality for local agencies.
- Sociology students in Race, Class, Gender and Sexuality organize equity awareness and cultural celebrations events.
Consulting projects (usually skill specific)
- Managerial Accounting students develop grant proposals and business plans for local non- profit organizations.
- Human Nutrition students review menus for local group homes and non-profit daycares.
- Engineering students design ramps and entranceways for wheelchair access to public buildings.
- Animal Biology students work with local farmers on calf health.
- Human Nutrition students analyze the nutritional content of groceries distributed by the food bank.
- Biomechanics students assist athletes in skill enhancement by using videography.
- Mathematical Modeling students determined the most efficient site for a new fire hall.

- Community Nutrition students develop brochures regarding food and drug interactions for the pharmacy at the hospital.
- Psychology students develop brochures on the effect of different drugs on the brain.
- Political Science students in Women and Politics research possible funding sources for a local women’s organization.
- Sociology and Nursing students in Research Methods design, conduct and analyze attitudinal surveys on behalf of local organizations.
- History of Sport students research and develop posters regarding famous athletes from StFX.
- Economics students conduct community asset mapping for a small rural community.
- Canadian Women’s and Gender History students interview elderly female graduates of StFX regarding their experiences on campus.
- Earth Sciences students do water analysis for a coastal community’s organization.
