Department of Sociology Program Information / Career Night

The members of the Department of Sociology would like to invite all students who are interested in pursuing a degree in Sociology to drop by the Council Chambers in Bloomfield Centre on Tuesday, November 8th from 5:30-9:00pm for an informal Meet & Greet. This is a chance to discuss both the Sociology degree and the careers associated with such a degree. An information session on the Sociology program will begin the evening, followed by presentations from former grads of the Sociology program, who will be sharing their experiences of their degrees and subsequent career paths with those in attendance. Since this will be over the dinner period, refreshments will be provided. And because complimentary wine will be served, please bring your ID. The following speakers have been confirmed:
Danielle Beaton
Danielle graduated with First Class Honours in Sociology, subsidiary in English, from StFX in 2001. From 2001-2003, she attended Queens University and completed the course work towards her MA in Sociology. From 2003-2005, she was a research assistant with the College of Pharmacy at Dalhousie University, where she assisted her research team in the area of Natural Health Products and Evidence-Based Medicine, as well as overseeing their CHIR grant application process. From 2005-2009 she was an English as a Foreign Language instructor in Tokyo, Japan. The first couple of years she worked for a large National company (NOVA), but in the fall of 2007 she opened her own Eikawa (English Conversation School) in Shimokitazawa, Tokyo. It is currently still open and she continues to oversee the English Curriculum development from Canada. In 2010, she began her Bachelor of Education degree at St. Francis Xavier University and will be graduating in May 2012.
Chris Cook 
Chris graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Sociology at StFX in 1998, and a Bachelor of Social Work degree from the University of Manitoba in 2000. He is currently the Executive Director of East Novability Society for Persons With Disabilites. Chris is responsible for the overall direction and effective administration of activities, programs and strategic initiatives set out by the board of directors of East Novability, and oversees the development and provision of programs and services offered by East Novability.
