Are you aware that international students make up over 10 percent of the student body at X?
The International Student Society welcomes both international and Canadian students to join our diverse family and help us promote intercultural understanding and friendship on campus. The society most importantly provides advice and support for international students who need someone to talk or are experiencing difficulties. We host the International Student Welcome Week Program in August for all new international and exchange students to allow them a gradual adjustment to university and Canadian life away from their own country and family.
Other society activities throughout the year include an annual trip to Cape Breton, our famous Halloween Party, and monthly potlucks, cultural celebrations such as Chinese New Year, US Thanksgiving and X-pin ceremonies. The society also hosts several information sessions at various time during the year regarding academic resources, immigration and work permits.
Ifeanyi Obikili and Matthew Strachan are the International Society co-presidents’ for 2011-2012 and they are planning an exciting year of events for you beginning with International Welcome Program September 1st and Frosh week to follow.
