Adele McFarlane graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art from the Nova Scotia Collage of Design University in 2006 and received her Bachelor of Education from St. Thomas University in 2011. She maintains a studio practice in oil painting, collage, and assemblage sculpture, and her work has been shown throughout Nova Scotia in group and solo exhibits. Since moving to Antigonish County in 2012 she has worked with the ASAP Artist-Run Centre, to develop socially engaged art projects that involve visual art education, public participation, and bringing acts of art into the public realm.
Her work investigates the human condition in relation to the environment and uses themes rooted in narratives about cycles and emotional space. She explores the relationship between the physical influence of nature, such as that which sustains human survival, and the emotional impact; how a changing environmental situation can affect psychological and physiological experience.
Adele is dedicated to teaching and facilitating visual art practices. Through formal classes and other public engagement she believes in connecting people to acts of making by encouraging the development of skills through authentic instruction and hands on experimentation.
