Background:

Dr. Laura Gougeon is originally from Brazil, where she completed a B.Sc. in Human Nutrition with Honours. She moved to Canada in 2006 to pursue a M.Sc. in Nutrition at the University of Saskatchewan. She collaborated with a local non-profit organization to research assessed the nutritional quality of the school meals served in some elementary schools. During her doctoral studies at McGill University, in Montreal, her focus shifted to gerontology research, exploring some dietary factors potentially associated with late-life depression in the Quebec Longitudinal Study on Nutrition and Aging (NuAge). She also worked part-time at McGill’s Teaching and Learning Services for three years, which helped her to develop her teaching philosophy and skills and a strong interest for active learning strategies and technologies.
