OCTOBER 20, 2017:

Marshall Gilkes, trombone

Trombonist/composer Marshall Gilkes integrates myriad influences into a singular and distinctive voice, combining the spontaneous invention of jazz with the elegant architecture of classical composition and virtuosic technique with passionate emotion. His sound can be heard in the lush impressionism of the Maria Schneider Orchestra; the exotic chamber jazz of Colombian harpist Edmar Castañeda’s trio; and New York’s thriving Latin music scene. He has conducted his music with the WDR Big Band, UMO Jazz Orchestra, Airmen of Note, and Army Blues.  He’s also performed with Wynton Marsalis’ Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, the Christian McBride Big Band, Billy Cobham, Richard Bona, and Barbra Streisand. A finalist in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition in 2003, Gilkes has released four albums as a leader. The latest, Köln, features his compositions for Germany’s WDR Big Band and was nominated for two Grammy awards in 2016. Gilkes is a graduate of the Juilliard School and is an Assistant Professor of music at Berklee College of Music.  He is an artist for Edwards Instruments.

Port Cities

A group of people posing for the cameraDescription generated with very high confidence

Port Cities was formed by three of the East Coast’s risings stars:  Breagh MacKinnon, Carleton Stone and Dylan Guthro.  With layered pop production and edgy guitar, synth and beats instrumentation, Port Cities hits home with all the spirit you’d expect from its members. But at the same time, the tradition of songcraft and folk music is behind each song. And no matter if it’s a raw rocker, or an acoustic based heartbreaker, the lead vocals, duets, and three part harmonies make each performance shine.

Tickets:  $25.00 adults and $15.00 for students, children and seniors
