The membership of the Committee on Students with Disabilities is as follows:
a. Head of Students Services;
b. Manager of Admissions;
c. Director of Health, Counselling and Accessible Learning;
d. Two students with disabilities who are currently registered with the Centre for Accessible Learning at St. Francis Xavier University to be appointed by the President of the Students' Union;
e. One member of the Health, Counselling and Accessible Learning staff, to be appointed by the Director;
f. Coordinator of the Centre for Accessible Learning;
g. Disability Resources Facilitator;
h. One Faculty member, from each of the faculties of Arts, Science, Business and Education to be elected by the Senate for a three year period.

Terms of Reference:
The Committee on Students with Disabilities is a Standing Committee of Senate. This committee will review policy and undertake an education program throughout the University and the wider community to assure wider participation by people with disabilities in the programs of the University.

1. The Coordinator of the Centre for Accessible Learning will be the Contact Person for disabled students.
2. Students who are diagnosed with permanent disabilities, and who are seeking admission to the University are expected to satisfy the normal admission requirements. The Manager of Admissions, in consultation with the relevant Dean of Faculty, will consider an application from a student with a disability who does not meet the requirements if a petition is filed describing the exceptional grounds which prevented achievement of the normal admission standards.
3. On the Application form for Admission, students with disabilities requiring assistance and/or accommodation are encouraged to identify themselves.
4. The Contact Person will communicate with students with disabilities to see how St. Francis Xavier University might respond to their special needs.
5. The Contact Person will make arrangements with the appropriate administrative office for assistance in program advising and pre-registration, if necessary.
6. The Contact Person will arrange with the Registrar to make classroom changes where possible, when students are enrolled in courses situated in classrooms that are difficult to access.
7. After consultation with, and consent from, the student, the Contact Person may inform professors of the fact that a student with a disability will be attending their class. At this time discussion will be held regarding any special arrangements that might be required.
8. The Contact Person will arrange to develop a roster of volunteer note takers to help students who cannot take their own notes, readers for visually impaired students and student aids to help mobility impaired students. When possible, arrangements will be made for students needing special examination procedures, and any special library resources.
9. The Contact Person will arrange with the Facilities Management Office to provide students with physical disabilities with appropriate parking spaces, access ramps and elevator keys, where applicable.
