Position: Library Student Assistant (1-2)

Position Statement: Library Student Assistants are required to work in various areas of the library including the Access Services Desk Hours: Must be able to work from 12pm to 2pm on Wednesday’s for this term, other shifts as available

Salary: $10.85/hour

Qualifications:

Customer Service Skills

  • Ability to direct patrons to different service or repository areas of the library
  • Ability to assist patrons with the completion of forms
  • Ability to update database records with patron information
  • Ability to enforce library rules and policies with firm but polite approach

Technical Skills in the use of:

  • Search Tools – Novanet, Novanet Express, Electronic Resources
  • Photocopier
  • MS Office PC
  • Microform Reader General Library Knowledge:
  •  Familiarity with different library service areas and library holding repositories
  • Familiarity with call number & serials listing systems (Library of Congress) for the shelving and retrieval of library material including books, journals, electronic resources, music holdings and microform

Sample of Duties

  • Front Desk service
  • Cash transactions
  • Search, retrieval and re-shelving of library material (all media)
  •  Database entries
  • Forms completion
  • ommunication of direction to assist library patrons

The ideal candidate for this position will:

  • be motivated, with great organization skills
  • be able to work independently
  • have exceptional attention to detail • be familiar with and/or willing to learn about libraries and how they operate
  • be reliable and flexible to work 2 to 3 different shifts per week
