Marine Atlantic is looking for a Senior Financial Analyst to work with our Finance Department in Port aux Basques, NL.
The Company’s finance and accounting group process’ all payroll, payables and receivables; generates and distributes performance reports; compiles required Federal government reports and controls the company’s cash and financial instruments. The department also assists in preparing budgets, corporate plans, various analysis’, and supports other departments with their financial and administrative needs.
Reporting directly to the Manager of Financial Planning and Advisory, this position is responsible for various financial analyses, planning, and leadership on major initiatives. This senior financial position undertakes complex and critical economic/financial research/analysis, which supports the organization’s Corporate Plan. This position combines a thorough knowledge of accounting and finance issues with business sense.
Key Areas of Responsibility Include:
• Provide financial expertise to various departments within the organization in relation to Corporate Initiatives undertaken.
• Conduct economic analyses/studies and counsel on all matters of potentially significant financial impact to the Corporation.
• Assist with the development and implementation of strategies designed to mitigate risks.
• Assist with Financial Advisory requirements - business case analysis, quality review of financial proposals, trending analysis and spending behaviour reviews, model creation, process reviews, accounting standards.
• Facilitate the accounting processes for the Pension Plan for Employees of Marine Atlantic Inc. (MAI). Duties include verifying invoices for payment, preparing quarterly and annual statements for the Board, and working with the Auditors.
• Assist the Operations Management team with the annual Drydocking process from the assessment of RFP respondents, attending the drydocking and monitoring costs compared to budget, ensuring invoices are paid and the project is closed.
• Assist with monthly financial budget and mid-year financial budget review
variance analysis.
• Assist with inputs into the internal and external reporting process.
• Assists in the accomplishment of company objectives by performing other related
duties as required.

EDUCATION
Bachelor of Business Administration or Commerce with concentration in Accounting from
a recognized university.
AND
Possession or working towards a professional accounting designation CPA (CA, CGA,
or CMA).
OR
A combination of equivalent education, job-related training, and work experience in a
related position.
EXPERIENCE
A minimum of 3-5 years of demonstrated relevant work experience.
QUALIFICATIONS
Essential
• Thorough knowledge of accounting and finance issues, financial reporting,
accounting standards, and control techniques.
• Theoretical and practical knowledge of different financial and analytical
techniques.
• Ability to use specialized financial management systems and applications.
• Ability to effectively communicate complex financial information to individuals at
all levels, internal and external to the organization.
• Ability to manage own work plan while respecting all deadlines (includes skills in
organization, prioritization, and multi-tasking).
• Ability to facilitate and/or coordinate projects.
• Detail oriented, well organized and a demonstrated ability to function effectively
with a high degree of interdependence and autonomy.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products – Power Point and Word, and a high
level of proficiency in Excel.
