Immersion Service Learning - Criminal Record Check

 IMPORTANT:

If you will be applying for the 2017-2018 Immersion Service Learning (ISL) program, please go to the Police Service or RCMP detachment in the area where you currently reside and get your criminal record check started IMMEDIATELY.  The process has become longer this year, so you need to start now!  If the check is not complete before you come to StFX, arrange for a family member to pick up the form or for the police station to mail it to you.

All applicants participating in the ISL program are required to provide a current Criminal Record Check, which includes a Vulnerable Sector Search.   For more information, please refer to the Vulnerable Sector Check pamphlet.

In order to be considered current, the Criminal Record Check must be dated no more than 12 months prior to the start of the 2017-2018 academic year which begins on Tuesday, September 5, 2017.

Students from the Antigonish area:

Students who are from the local area are asked to take their completed forms to the local RCMP Detachment in person.  You will be required to present one piece of identification which must have a photograph (ie. driver’s license, passport, student card).  Students from the local area can contact the program assistant of the Immersion Service Learning program for a letter that will waive the application fee.  Please email Jodi to arrange a time to pick up your letter at jvandomp@stfx.ca.

Participants from outside the Antigonish area:

Students who do not reside in the Antigonish area are asked to complete the two forms, Consent for Disclosure of Criminal Record Information and Vulnerable Sector Check, through your local Police Service in person.  You will be required to present one piece of identification which must have a photograph (ie. driver’s license, passport, student card).

All Students:

Students are obligated to inform the Service Learning Office immediately of any change in status of their criminal record.

A copy of your RCMP or Police Check is due with your third immersion payment in January, 2018
Failure to present a clear Criminal Record Check may result in your participation in the ISL program being denied/rescinded.

If you have any questions, please contact the Immersion Service Learning Program Assistant Jodi VanDompseler at jvandomp@stfx.ca or 867-2583.
