Community Partner Award

This award recognizes a local, regional, national, or international community partner who has made a significant and sustained contribution to the growth and development of educational (teaching and/or research) opportunities in the StFX University community.  Recipients may include non-profit agencies, arm’s-length government agencies (e.g. schools, health boards, etc.) and individuals.   

Fall Convocation, L'Arche Antigonish were awarded the Community Partner Recognition Award for their ability to inspire faculty, students, staff and community.

Since 1979, L'Arche Antigonish has partnered with StFX to provide thousands of Service Learning placements to students, hundreds of field trips and presentations to Coady participants, and has maintained long standing relationships with the Athletics and the Academic Departments on campus.  L'Arche Antigonish has provided research opportunities for faculty and students and has been instrumental in the development of the Diploma in Intellectual Disabilities studies at Stfx.  The long standing partnership between L'Arche Antigonish and StFX is an outstanding example of a mutually beneficial community partnership that has resulted in countless long lasting friendships between L'Arche Antigonish family members and StFX staff, students and faculty.

A faculty member describes the impact on students who experience the L'Arche Antigonish community as follows:  "Their worldview was critically challenged and has shifted from seeing people with disabilities as "less than capable" to one where core members can play an active role in demonstrating leadership, inclusion, diversit, equity and social justice-core valunes of our university."
